Mission & History

Our Mission

To enable children and families to realize their full potential and achieve self-reliance in safe neighborhoods.

History and Timeline

Diversified Community Services (DCS) was officially incorporated in 1968 through the merger of University of Pennsylvania Settlement Houses and Camps that existed in the early 1900s in South Philadelphia/Point Breeze.  In the 1970s DCS established two new daycare centers in the community, while maintaining Dixon House the only settlement house or neighborhood center to remain.  In 2007 DCS completed the construction of a new social service & administrative center in the heart of Point Breeze.

As we enter our second century DCS continues to embody the historic attributes of settlement houses -- offering responsive services that are close to home and easily accessible, serving as an "extended living room," and providing leadership to bring resources into the community.
